The Third Man

I recently saw the black and white movie 'The Third Man' by Carol Reed and its a wonderful movie. A quote from the movie really caught me. Harry Lime on being confronted by his friend Holly Martins on being a criminal says "In Italy for 30 years under the Borgais they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshed, but they still produced Michelangelo, Leonardo DaVinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock". I would like to compare this to what Gareth Pugh said - "Crisis breeds creativity." This movie won the Grand Prize of The Festival (now Palme d'Or) at the Cannes Film Festival 1949.
